The Year the Gypsies Came has been nominated for the Carnegie Medal, the most prestigious award for childrens and young adult books in the United Kingdom. Winner to be announced in July 2007. The Carnegie Medal in Literature was established in the UK in 1936 in honour of Scottish philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. It is awarded to an outstanding book for children and young adult readers.
